Mothers Day was extra special this year when celebrities and VIP guests were invited to the Silver Spoon Dog and Baby Buffet held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The hottest must haves for moms with little ones with either two or four legs were featured buffet style. Celebrities such as Minnie Driver, Amy Smart, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Beverly Mitchell, Jodie Sweetin and Mackenzie Phillips were among the long list to enjoy the luxury event.

I’ve covered numerous events like this over the years but this year was extra special because I got to bring along my sister who is expecting her first child this summer. It’s like I had my own personal baby expert. Along with it being a beautiful day the event benefitted ‘Best Friends Animal Society’ and had onsite adoptions, which let me tell you was very hard not bring home one of these adorable dogs. • GroVia Heads to Hollywood

With a new brand and a new look, GroVia Visits the California Sunshine to Celebrate with Hollywood’s Hottest Celebrity Parents

To kick start our recent rebrand, GroVia (previously known as Gro Baby) traveled west this May to celebrate with Hollywood’s top celebrity parents and parents-to-be. With the mission of educating parenting influencers on the benefits of cloth diapering, GroVia toted tons of product, prizes and vital knowledge to two great events in Los Angeles – the Pregnancy Awareness Month (PAM) Kick-Off Event on May 2nd, followed by the celebrity-filled Dog & Baby Buffet Mother’s Day Event on May 7th -8th.

GroVia brought the sunshine with them to the PAM Kick-Off Event held at TreePeople in the hills of Los Angeles. Creed opened the event with great music, top parenting influencers like Ricki Lake and Dr. Alan Greene spoke to the benefits of natural parenting, and celebrity parents mingled with GroVia – many learning for the first time why GroVia diapers (and cloth diapers in general), are better for baby, our planet and our checkbooks. Celebrities like Danica McKellar (Winnie, The Wonder Years), Kaitlin Olson and husband Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), and supermodel/entrepreneur Josie Maran, all stopped by the GroVia booth to learn about our new brand, products and the ins-and-outs of cloth diapering. Danica McKellar was so surprised to learn about what a difference cloth diapering can make on baby and our planet – she left with a bag full of product and plans to use GroVia on her baby-to-be, due this Fall! • Red-Hot Eco Moms - Redbook Article

RedbookIt's only natural to want to make the world a better place for your child. These 8 women did something about it — from designing eco-friendly diapers to creating an environmentally safe, completely ingestible toy cleaner.

THE CHALLENGE Find a convenient alternative to disposable diapers — a major household contributor to landfills.

THE EARTH-FRIENDLY SOLUTION A hybrid cloth and disposable diaper system.

When Kim Ormsby had her first baby nine years ago, she balked at the idea of using cloth diapers. Who needed more laundry to do? But after six months of going through about 10 disposables a day, she tried cloth. Turns out they weren't bulky and didn't require pins, like the ones from her childhood. The extra laundry was manageable, Kim was saving money, and she was glad not to add more trash to local landfills.

Recognizing all the benefits, including environmental and financial, Kim was sure other parents would be interested in becoming cloth converts. So when she was laid off from her engineering job after 9/11, she saw her freedom as the chance to turn her inspiration into reality. She used her credit card's $15,000 limit to set up an online cloth diaper business. She developed a customer base, which spread the word, and in 2006, her husband quit his job to help secure loans and create the company, complete with a retail store, a corporate office, and a name: The Natural Baby Co.

Cloth was still a hard sell to parents who liked the idea of being eco-conscious but preferred the convenience of disposables. So in 2009, with help from a designer, Kim launched the Gro Baby system, featuring a waterproof outer shell that gives parents the option of attaching a cloth insert or an eco-friendly disposable one; the shell can be used up to four times before needing to be washed. The system, now called GroVia, is sold at hundreds of retailers, including Whole Foods and Costco. An organic cloth set costs $25; a box of 50 biodegradable disposables is $20. "What's great," Kim says, "is that instead of washing cloth diapers after each use, you usually only have to wash the insert, so your laundry loads are lighter. That means using less water, detergent, and energy."

  • Cloth diaper week: This ain't your mama's cloth diaper

Pregnancy and Newborn CoverWhen I tell people I use cloth diapers on my son, they typically get this look on their face like I’ve just told them I do brain surgery in my basement. Cloth diapering isn’t what it used to be—gone are the days of diaper pins and rubber pants. Today’s cloth diapers are easy to use, easy to clean, and oh-so-adorable.

My newest love is the hybrid diapers by GroBaby. These diapers are so unique and easy to use, even on the go. They come in a variety of adorable prints and have easy snap-in inserts. I also love that they have a biodegradable insert option that is great for babysitters or to use when you’re not at home.

GroBaby diapers come in only one size, which for all you cloth diapering newbies means that they have easy to adjust snaps so they’ll fit your baby as both an infant and a toddler. In fact, they fit most children from newborn all the way up to their potty days. If you’re thinking about giving GroBaby a try, I recommend their GroBaby Experience Package. It includes two shells, two organic soaker pads, and two organic boosters. I would also recommend picking up a pack of GroBaby Bio Soaker Pads for using while you are out and about. You’ll be surprised by how easy cloth diapering actually is!
